Noemi Dominguez was born to Olga and Manuel Dominguez on February 26, 1973. She attended La Feria High School, graduated in 1991, and was the class Salutatorian. While in high school, she was part of Student Council, Band, Flag Corps, Key Club and Speech & Drama. Noemi was awarded Best Actress in 1991 for her performance in the One Act Play. She volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister, Lecturer and Youth Club representative and retreat leader for St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in La Feria. Noemi went on to attend Rice University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in English (1995). She was an assistant to the Dean while at Rice University.
Noemi was known as a sweet and kind teacher at Franklin Elementary in Houston and was working on getting her Masters. She will ALWAYS be remembered for her faith, devotion to education, and improving the lives of children. Noemi is dearly missed by her loving parents, 8 siblings, fiancé, friends and her students. The family was very honored to hear the School Board’s decision to name the new elementary school after Noemi. The 54 state-of-the-art classroom facility is on Canal Street and Pancho Maples Drive. It includes a gym, science labs, computer labs and a band hall. The student population of Noemi Dominguez Elementary is 390 students serving grades 5th and 6th.
